Did You Know? Cellulite

80-90% of post-adolescent females suffer from cellulite?

The word cellulite was first used in VOGUE magazine in the 1960’s and refers to the undesirable bumpy, orange peel appearance most commonly found on the abdomen, thighs and buttocks.

Cellulite is caused by the way tissue beneath your skin traps fat. Women’s collagen fibers that connect the muscles to the skin are arranged in a vertical pattern and each of these chambers contain fat cells. When the fat cells expand they bulge against the skin causing an uneven, dimpled appearance on the skin’s surface.

Men’s collagen fibers are not arranged vertically but rather in a crisscross, lattice pattern that holds fat firmly in place and does not allow it to bulge against the skin.

In addition to a healthy lifestyle including clean eating and exercise, the daily application of topical creams that contain lipolytic ingredients to inhibit fat storage and firming ingredients to strengthen the collagen fibers will help to improve the appearance of the skin and create a smooth, contoured look.
